About

Rahul Sharma
Born and brought up in Aligarh, studying at a prestigious school and university opened my quest
to explore the world around me. My creative instincts always intrigued me to observe and
capture the moment. Photography was inherited to me by my grandfather who was one of the
most renowned photographers in Mussoorie. After being associated with Tilak Maharashtra
University for mentoring students on photography as a skill, I decided to set up a retouching
company Jimretouch along with practicing photography.
I consider myself as a professional artist, an educator and a storyteller. Through my work, I
represent the exploration of the world of recreation and escapism. Over a period, I made trips to
heritage sites, streets, art galleries, rejuvenation centers, random roads and arcades to look at
them in a critical way. I was interested in people, stories behind them, buildings that house
desires and fantasies, and how the fantasy really comes to fail when they are looked at closely in
black and white.
Visual storytelling allows me to be able to come up with ideas for images that are a lot more
conceptual, where the end result is more of a catalyst for a larger discussion about various topics
in different spheres of life. As an artist, I have always been interested in “in between” moments,
stories where you are not sure of what the protagonist has just done or is going to do next.
Whether I am photographing a person or a landscape or writing a narrative, I aim to freeze
thoughtful moments in time and capture the experiences as I strongly believe that experiences are
what really matters in life.’
What defines me is aesthetic appreciation, perseverance, patience and dedication when working
on projects and briefs.
